After five years in Fenerbahce, Kostas Sloukas said goodbye to Istanbul and put on again the red and white jersey. The Greek combo guard is about to create one of the best backcourts in Europe with Vasilis Spanoulis!
Kostas Sloukas belongs to the ’90s golden generation. Along with Kostas Papanikolaou and Vaggelis Mantzaris made it to Olympiacos in the beginning of the previous decade, aiming to form a backbone of Greek players in the club. Not only they succeeded, but they also became the key players of the very successful 2012 – 2015 period, during which they won two times the EuroLeague and the Greek championship.
Five years after leaving Piraeus port for Istanbul, Kostas Sloukas is repatriated and is destined for being the next Olympiacos’ leader. And this is normal, since he is an athlete that in his 30s, he has already won three times the EuroLeague and counts seven participations in the Final 4 of the biggest basketball tournament in Europe.
Last year, even though Fenerbahce had a lot highs and lows, the Greek combo guard stood out with his performance. In 25 games he had an average of 11.6 points, 6.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds, while he had 42.2% in three points and 48.2% in two points.
Kostas Sloukas was always over 9.2 points average per game during the last four years and every season from 2015 he has got at least 45% in three points, proving he is one of the best offensive playmakers in Europe. He is also subtle in free throws, with a percentage that every year exceeds the 80% and always a team player, since he needs just 78 assists to surpass the milestone of 1000.
Olympiacos BC official announcement stated: “Olympiacos BC has concluded the roster for the new season and wants to thank the team sponsors and especially bwin, because in a very difficult period not only for sports, but also for the society, remained by our side and with their very important aid we keep standing for the values that Olympiacos expresses”.
