He made his name as player in Europe at Panathinaikos. Nick Calathes wore for the first time the “Green” shirt in 2009-10 season, at the age of 19. The international guard called OAKA “home” for a total of eight years. He played for Panathinaikos from 2009 to 2012 and joined the club for his second stint in the summer of 2015.
On the occasion of his comeback to OAKA for the first time as opponent, the Barcelona player recalled many memories and shared his thoughts on bwin’s camera. Calathes explained to bwin, the Official National Sponsor of the EuroLeague, the reasons that made him leave Panathinaikos. He also talked about the approach of Olympiacos and how he chose to continue his career in Barcelona. There, he found a good old friend, “Blaugrana’s” head coach Sarunas Jasikevicious, with whom the 32-years-old guard was teammates at Panathinaikos.
Calathes, referred to their joint presence in the Catalan’s project and answered whether the Lithuanian’s philosophy is similar to that of their common mentor, Zeljko Obradovic.
He also spoke about the management of Panathinaikos by two “legends” of the team, Fragiskos Alvertis and Dimitris Diamantidis, who now lead the management in the “Greens”. Finally, the international guard talked about the National team and the Pre-Olympic Tournament in Victoria, Canada!
