Having the strong belief that prevention is better than cure and that everyone should have access to public health care, “Médecins du Monde”, with the support of bwin, delivered humanitarian missions throughout the Aegean islands in 2019, covering over 1.600 nautical miles and traveling for over 62 hours by boat and plane.
At times, the weather caused problems in reaching some of the most distant Greek islands, but the fact that over 600 residents needed our aid overcame all obstacles. These islands often lack many essentials and health services. True to its vision of actively supporting the societies of countries where it is operating, bwin has been by the side of “Médecins du Monde” and their work.
Agios Efstratios (in March), Psara (in September), Fournoi Korseon (in October) and Kastellorizo (in November) were the islands which were selected by the “Médecins du Monde”. The doctors provided free medical services to over 600 permanent residents, including various examinations by: Pathologist, Gynecologist, Pediatrician, Dentist, Cardiologist and Ophthalmologist.
These aid missions, which will continue in 2020 in Northern Greece, were carried out under the “bwincares” social responsibility program. “These frontier regions of our country seem to be forgotten by the state in many cases. During 2019, with the valuable help of bwin, we were able to provide medical assistance to residents of such areas. We would like to thank bwin for that”, said Chara Tzouvara, Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Médecins du Monde” in Greece.
“In 2019 we supported the humanitarian work of “Doctors of the World”, providing health services to residents of four islands. Our goal in 2020 is to continue supporting the Organization’s work, this time in mainland Greece as well”, added Konstantinos Efremidis, CSR Manager of bwin.
Bwin is supporting the work of “Médecins du Monde” as an integral part of its corporate social responsibility strategy.
