Apostolos Papastamos has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games and is one of Greece’s greatest hopes.

Growing up at the pool

He began swimming at the age of four and from that very moment his life changed. He first chose breaststroke, but his trainer at Chania, Kosta Tzilivakis, realized that individual medley would fit his abilities the most and the successes that followed prove it was the right decision. His love for swimming and proper training keeps him in top form and the love of his family helped him to overcome all the difficulties presented to him.

At the top of the world!

At 19, Papastamos, has already won the Gold Medal at 400 m. individual medley at the World Championships in 2019, breaking the world record with a time of 4:11:93. He also won the Bronze Medal at 200 m. He already managed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics and continues to train hard, so that he can realize his dream of not only competing but also succeeding in the Games.

Papastamos trains for about 6 hours daily. He splits the total day’s training between two sessions in the pool and at the gym, while also following a special strength program. The most difficult task is to find the right balance between competitive sport and education, as his goal is to get a scholarship at a University in the USA and study at the field of sports.

Bwin on his side

Papastamos has bwin on his side and receives great support in his effort to realize his dreams! He is one of the athletes of the “Team Future” program and with the support of bwin he has the opportunity to take part in more training camps abroad and reach his potential in order to be ready for the challenges he’ll face in Tokyo!
